WEkEO - a DIAS platform

Session

DIAS - bedre adgang til satellitdata

Abstract

The European Commission (EC) has launched an initiative to develop Copernicus Data and Information Access Services (DIAS) that facilitates access to Copernicus data and information from the Copernicus services.

The WEkEO DIAS platform  is powered by EUMETSAT, ECMWF and MERCATOR OCEAN. Those 3 institutions belong to the so-called Entrusted Entities and have joined forces to build up a DIAS in a stepwise approach.

First, WEkEO aims at serving EU Member States and their respective national initiatives with a platform gathering environmental data, tools, computing resources, user support services and expertise to aid each EU Member State in responding to national and EU environmental Directives.

Second, it also aims at serving every user in need of environmental data, computing resources and data storage for their business or research.

Målgruppe

The target group is participants responding to national and EU environmental Directives, and users in need of environmental data, computing resources and data storage for their business or research.

The European Commission (EC) has launched an initiative to develop Copernicus Data and Information Access Services (DIAS) that facilitate access to Copernicus data and information from the Copernicus services. By providing data and information access alongside processing resources, tools and other relevant data, this initiative is expected to boost user uptake, stimulate innovation and the creation of new business models based on Earth Observation data and information.

In response to EC requirements and in order to foster the competition of creative solutions, five different DIAS operated by different consortia are currently being developed, and has been officially launched in June 2018.

The WEkEO platform presented here is one of the 5 DIAS, powered by EUMETSAT, ECMWF and MERCATOR OCEAN.

The DIAS interface services encompass tools and services that will make it easy for the users to create their own applications. The environment should offer scalable computing and storage resources to the users at competitive commercial conditions. Finally, the providers of the DIAS will provide support to users, and making sure their access to the DIAS data runs smoothly.
